If it wasn’t enough to give half the work force the sack, annoy all the users and advertisers and forget to move with the times, this ailing social networking site really needs to be “taken out the back and shot” to be put out of it’s misery.
In probably one of the most disastrous PR exercises ever, myspace lose the “a place for friends” tag from their logo.

After all, we all know what happened to FriendsReunited back in the early 00’s! When a site as big and dominant as this rests on its laurels, and essentially forgets about the users that made it a success in the first place, the users always bite back….by simply not visiting it anymore.
In the largest de-friending in its history, MySpace cut 30% of its workforce today in an effort to save money and offset falling advertising revenues. Ominously, the layoffs came the same day reports emerged that rival social networking site Facebook overtook MySpace in U.S. visitors in last month.
Falling visitor numbers of course can result in a downward spiral. Advertisers will want to pay less because fewer people are viewing their ads, which means less money to pay the staff, which means less work will go in to keeping the site current…and so on…down the firey pit.
Maybe the latest owners do know what they’re doing, and will come up with an incredible masterplan to save it. But it needs to be quick and ruthless if the site is to survive or disappear down the swanny!
Actually, I have an idea! If they’re true to their core usership, they should just do the thing that they’re best at – i.e. the music side of things. I they just concentrate on what the remaining users are interested in – new bands and new music – they might salvage some dignity…and visitors.
